XWipe Archive Upload Failing: How to Fix Upload Errors
Upload the .zip file exactly as you downloaded it from X — don't unzip it. XWipe reads the tweet data from inside the .zip itself, so most archive-upload failures come down to a corrupted download, a file over the 2 GB limit, or an expired X session — not the file you picked.
XWipe (getxwipe.com) is a web tool for bulk-deleting tweets, likes, retweets, bookmarks, DMs, and follows on X (Twitter). "Archive upload" means uploading your X data archive so XWipe can reach tweets older than the 3,200 the API exposes. This has nothing to do with Xcode app archiving or uploading apps to the App Store.
Why you upload the archive at all
X's API only lets any tool see your most recent 3,200 posts. Your X data archive solves that: it contains every tweet ID you've ever posted — even posts from 2012 — so XWipe can delete your full history, not just the recent 3,200 (as of June 2026).
If you have fewer than 3,200 posts total, you don't need the archive at all. Use Quick Delete instead — it's faster and skips this whole step.
How to download and upload your archive correctly
- On X, open Settings → Your account → Download an archive of your data.
- Confirm your password and request the archive.
- Wait for X to prepare it — this can take up to 24 hours. X emails you when it's ready (timing per X, as of June 2026).
- Download the .zip to a computer (not a phone) on a stable connection. Do not unzip it.
- In XWipe, upload that .zip exactly as downloaded. XWipe reads the tweet data from inside it and queues your deletions.
Common upload failures and how to fix them
1. The file isn't the .zip from X
XWipe only accepts the .zip file X gives you — not an unzipped folder, a single extracted file, or a re-zipped archive. Fix: upload the original .zip exactly as downloaded. If you already unzipped it, just upload the .zip you started with.
2. The file is over 2 GB, or the upload times out
Archive uploads are capped at 2 GB (as of June 2026), and large files can stall on slow or unstable connections. Fix: upload from a desktop on a stable connection rather than mobile data. If your archive is over 2 GB (usually because of heavy media), contact support and we'll help.
3. The download is corrupted
A partial or interrupted download can produce a .zip that won't open or upload — this is the single most common cause. Fix: delete the file and re-download a fresh archive from X.
4. The archive is very old
X has changed its archive format over the years, and a very old archive may not match the current format. Fix: request a fresh archive from X using the steps above, then upload that.
5. Your X session expired
If your connection to X timed out during the process, the upload can fail even with the right file. Fix: reconnect your X account from your XWipe dashboard, then upload again.
After a successful upload
Once the .zip uploads, XWipe queues your deletions and works through them at X's rate limit of about 50 every 15 minutes (~4,800 per day) — roughly 5 hours for 1,000 tweets and 10 to 11 days for 50,000 (as of June 2026). It runs in the background, so you can close the tab and check back later.
Is uploading your archive safe?
Your archive is stored only to process your deletion job and is automatically deleted after 7 days (as of June 2026). For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
Still failing?
If you've uploaded a fresh .zip from X on a stable connection and it still won't go through, contact us with your account email, the rough size of your archive, and the device and browser you used.
Frequently Asked Questions
What file does XWipe need from my X archive?+
The .zip file exactly as you download it from X — do not unzip it. XWipe reads the tweet data from inside the .zip for you. Only .zip files are accepted (as of June 2026).
Why won't my Twitter archive upload to XWipe?+
The most common reasons are: the file isn't the .zip from X (only .zip is accepted), the download was corrupted or incomplete, the upload timed out on a slow connection, or your X session expired mid-process. Re-download a fresh .zip from X and upload it on a stable connection.
How big can the archive be?+
Up to 2 GB (as of June 2026). Most text archives are well under that; very large media-heavy archives can approach the limit, so upload from a desktop on a stable connection.
Do I need to upload an archive if I have fewer than 3,200 tweets?+
No. X's API exposes your most recent 3,200 posts directly, so Quick Delete can reach all of them without an archive. The archive is only for reaching older history.
How long does X take to prepare my archive?+
Up to 24 hours. X prepares the archive on its own schedule and emails you when it's ready to download (timing per X, as of June 2026).
Is it safe to upload my archive to XWipe?+
Your archive is stored only to process your deletion job and is automatically deleted after 7 days (as of June 2026). See our Privacy Policy for details.
